Prof. Bengt Rystedt (1937) comes from Sweden.
He holds a doctoral degree in Geographic Information Technology from Lund Technical Institute and entered the National Land Survey of Sweden in 1972, where he worked on the development in  cartography and GIS and finally as a Head of Research (1996-2003).
Dr. Rystedt has served as Head of the Technical Department of the University College of Gävle, Sweden (2000-2004) and as an Adjunct Professor of Geographic Information Technology at different Swedish universities (1996-2004). He was a President of the International Cartographic Association (1999-2003) and chaired the ICA's Atlas Commission in 1987-1995. In 2009 Bengt Rystedt was awarded an ICA Honorary Fellowship.
